A Time Long Past
Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn was born in 1983 and was destined to join the music industry from an early age. His family had several connections in the business, the biggest one being his cousin Rico Wade who was a prominent producer of the popular Organized Noize production company. Wade had a huge influence on young DeMun and taught him how to develop his rapping abilities, as well as different factors that could make his lyrics better. After impressing his local rap crew, the budding hip hop star was thereon referred to as the ‘Future of rap,’ which he eventually adopted as his new stage name.
By 2010, Future had started to garner attention in the local rap scene and was eventually signed to a recording contract by 2009. He started by collaborating with different artists and released his first mixtape, titled “1000” in 2010.
Getting Down to Work
Between the years 2010 and 2012, Future released six mixtapes just to create a buzz in the music industry before releasing his first album. He made his 2011 mixtape, called “Free Bricks” in collaboration with the established hip hop star Gucci Mane . It caught the public’s attention and his next two tapes “Streetz Calling” and “Astronaut Status” added to his rising popularity.
In 2012, after months of speculation, Future finally released his debut album, called “Pluto.” The album made it to number eight on the Billboard charts and number two on the US Rap music charts. It also managed to sell over forty thousand copies in its very first week and was voted into the top ten rap albums of the year by the Washington Post and the New York Times.
Over the next year, Future made two more mixtapes and also toured for his burgeoning fan base. He then released his follow-up album, titled “Honest” in 2014. This record did even better than its predecessor, as it made it to number two on the Billboard charts and topped the US Rap music charts. It also managed to sell over fifty thousand copies in its first week and went on to sell over a hundred thousand copies in two months.
Future’s latest album, titled “DS2” came out in 2015, after he had released three more mixtapes in the meantime. This record is his best selling to date and made it to the top of the Billboard charts. It also topped the US Rap music charts and managed to sell over a hundred and twenty thousand copies in its very first week.
