Foster the People is the new band to have taken the world of music by storm. They have presented a very nice combination of indie pop, rock and dance music in their songs and are being called the next big thing by all the leading music critics. Their music is being described as very young and modern like the three band members Mark Foster, Mark Pontius and Cubbie Fink who together formed the band in Los Angeles.
Pumped Up Kicks was released as the first single by the group Foster the People before the release of their debut album and paved the way for the success of their first studio album when it was released a few months later. Many a publications and music critics have labeled the song as being a sleeper hit because it became popular when the charts were being ruled by Lady gaga style dance anthems and hip hop music. But the success of the song ensured that there was some curiosity and interest when the band revealed plans to release their first album soon afterwards. When first released the song debuted at number 96 on Billboard Hot 100, and from there it started climbing the charts, reaching the number three spot in the Hot 100 countdown and topping the Billboard's Alternative Songs chart where it held onto the top spot for many weeks. The song has been the band?s biggest hit so far topping the charts in many countries including the US, the UK, Canada and Australia. It has brought the group many a sponsorship deals and has been featured on hit TV shows like in the episode titled Vendetta on popular show Warehouse 13. And then was later used by the mobile phone company O2 for their promotional campaigns in the UK.  Mark Foster who is the front man for the group is credited for writing and recording the song. It is very interesting to note that the version of the song on the final album was actually just a demo recorded by the band and they never got the time to record it again before the big release of the album. The song became the Song of the Week earlier this year and received increased airplay by the BBC Radio One.  DJ Greg James made a video of himself dancing to the song and released it on his website causing the popularity of the single to increase further.

The second single to follow their first song was Helena Beat which was again penned by the lead man of the band Foster the People Mark Fosterwho in many interviews has revealed that he drew on his personal life experiences to write this song. And like his previous single though there are dark and sad elements in the lyrics but the tune of the song is very upbeat, catchy and dance influenced.  The song talks about life being harsh and unfair for a lot of people and yet it is so very short that before you know it all your strife and troubles are a thing of the past. Interestingly the video for the song depicted images of war and turbulence across the world and the front man in his van on a long road passing many barren places in his journey. The song gained in popularity after it was made the Single of the Week at the iTunes store and made available for free download. It was also the Song of the Week on BBC Radio One in August this year and received continuous airtime.

The first studio album by Foster the People is called Torches and was released in May this year. It was very well received by critics and proved to be a major commercial success for the group. The album sold more than thirty thousand copies in only its first week, which is a significant figure for a debut album. A lot of people have found their music to be very different from what a lot of musicians are doing these days and that according to many has been the reason behind the group?s success.

At the upcoming concert featuring Foster the People, the fans would get to hear such brilliant songs from their new album as Helena Beat, Warrant, Pumped Up Kicks, Call It What You Want, Waste, Houdini, Life On the Nickel, I Would Do Anything for You, Miss You and Don't Stop (Color On the Walls).
