Beginnings
The genesis of the band took place in Wilmette, Illinois, by the efforts of two school buddies Joe Trohman and Pete Wentz. These two friends had already showcased their talent with many cult and underground bands in Chicago. The band was joined by two other talented musicians Patrick Stump and Andy Hurley. This ‘Fantastic Four’ created a perfect artistic blend and came out to be known to the public as Fall Out Boy.
Initial Efforts
Their initial music efforts began in 2001 when the band self-released their single demo. In 2002, the band launched a split EP in collaboration with Project Rocket. By now, the band had something to perform at locally held events and gigs.
The following year of 2003, saw the band launching a small LP "Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out with Your Girlfriend" under the label of Uprising Records. With this release, their career started to pick up pace and their music began to get noticed. This recognition resulted in the band signing a record deal with the Fueled by Ramen label. Their first full-fledged studio release "Take This To Your Grave" came out in 2003. The efforts of the band paid off and the album sold reasonable records in the country and got the certification of Gold by the RIAA.
Over the Years
In the year 2004, their EP "My Heart Will Always Be the B-side to My Tongue" was released under the same record. The EP enabled the band to experiment with a little different music this time other than their signature punk. The album made its way to the charts and landed on 153rd, making it the band’s first album to hit the charts.
The band rose to international fame with the release of their commercially and critically acknowledged album "From Under the Cork Tree" in 2005. The name of the album came from one of the childhood influences of the band’s key lyricist and bassist Pete Wentz. It generated smash hits like "Dance, Dance" and "Sugar, We’re Going Down" that hit the Billboard’s Top Ten in no time. The album also garnered positive reviews, strengthened Fall Out Boy’s fan following and eventually got the band a Grammy nomination for the "Best New Artist". In the coming two years, the band went for an extensive tour to local and international cities and performed to huge crowds.
The 2007 studio release "Infinity on High" brought another grand success for the band. It topped the Billboard chart and went Platinum within a month after its release. This took the pop and punk listeners by storm and the band once again headed to numerous cities, hitting several venues. In 2009, Fall Out Boy announced their music break for an undecided time period and the band members got busy with their individual projects to explore more music.
They came back to the music scene with their new studio release "Save Rock and Roll". Just within the first week of its official launch, the album sold 154,000 copies and became Fall Out Boy’s second most successful album. The leading single "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)" hit the charts all over the world.
On November 15, 2019, the multi-platinum selling, Grammy-?nominated band released Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two through Island Records. It included songs like "Dear Future Self (Hands Up)" and “Alone Together”. The album was to be supported by a trek that couldn’t happen due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
