The Start of the Journey

Ashnikko’s real name is Ashton Nicole Casey and she was born in Oak Ridge in the state of North Carolina. She, however, grew up in Greensboro and that is where she began to listen to Slipknot and country music. Ashnikko got hooked to rap music at the age of ten when she listened to M.I.A’s studio album “Arular.” She started to listen to male singers at the age of sixteen.

During her teenage years, Ashnikko moved to Estonia because of her father’s studies. They stayed there for one year before relocating to Latvia. Two years later, she moved to London on her own.

The Beginnings of a Special Career

Ashnikko began her musical journey with the track Krokodil in July 2016 and uploaded it on SoundCloud. Next year, she came out with her debut EP, titled “Sass Pancakes” under the banner of Digital Picnic Records. She followed that up by releasing her next EP, “Unlikeable” in the year 2018.

Her third EP, “Hi It’s Me” was released in July, 2019. The track Stupid from the EP vent viral on TikTok. It also went to the top spot on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and the Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The track was also certified gold in both the US and Canada. Ashnikko then went on a tour with Danny Brown in October, 2019 as a supporting act, and also released a promotional track Halloweenie II: Pumpkin Spice in the same month.

Ashnikko Takes the Next Step

Ashnikko was slated to go on a tour with Doja Cat on the latter’s Hot Pink Tour in March, 2020 but those plans were shelved due to COVID-19. She did not stop and came out with her single, Tantrum during the same month. Ashnikko then released the track Cry in June, 2020, with the song also featuring Grimes. It was also accompanied by an animated music video. The track’s music video also earned the “Best Pop Video – UK” nomination at the UK Music Video Awards.

Then came the young star’s breakthrough hit, the track, Daisy in July, 2020. The song charted in multiple countries like Australia, Canada, Belgium, the US, Scotland, Portugal, and New Zealand among others. It earned gold certification in the US and Canada while going silver in the United Kingdom.

Demidevil

Ashnikko then released her first record, “Demidevil” in January of 2021. The album received critical and commercial acclaim almost instantly. The mixtape received three and a half stars out of five from AllMusic and four out of five stars from DIY, NME, and The Observer. The record also got eight marks out of ten from Clash.

On the commercial front, the album went on to peak at the first position on the US Heatseekers Albums. It also charted on prominent positions in Australia, Canada, the UK and Scotland.
