Andy Mineo, whose former stage name is C-Lite, is a Christian hip hop artist, director and producer. A native of Syracuse, Mineo established himself in New York City as a hip hop act, before finding religion and dedicating his life to Christ. An innovative Christian hip hop star, the rapper has released two studio albums to date and is currently promoting his latest record, Uncomfortable. Mineo is now on part two of the Uncomfortable tour and not a lot of shows are left on the trek. So fans of the artist should get their Andy Mineo tickets for a chance to catch him live in concert.
Starting off as a hip hop artist in a New York rap group, Andy Mineo did not look like a staunch Christian. However, he rediscovered Christ and dedicated his life to him. In the process, he has become one of the biggest Christian stars in the country.
Introduction to Christianity
Andy Mineo was introduced to religion at a relatively young age. During eighth grade, Mineo attended a Christian camp and was taught about the gospel. Mineo converted to Christianity, but over time, he drifted away from it, especially when he entered high school.
During his high school years, the aspiring artist got his hands on recording equipment, which led him to fall in love with music. Mineo began producing music at home and eventually recorded a song with friend, Chris ?Oxburg? Leonard, in 2001.
Mineo graduated from The City College of New York alongside Leonard and both of them decided to join Fat Camp, which was a rap group operating in the city. During their early days the group would open for major acts like Common, Jadakiss and The Roots. Fat Camp released their debut album, The Food, in 2006.
During his freshmen year, Mineo was introduced to producer Alex Medina, through whom he discovered T.R.U.C.E, an urban evangelism project which once again shifted his focus to religion. After listening to ?Price Tag,? a song by the Christian artist Da? T.R.U.T.H, Mineo rededicate his life to Christianity and closed his home studio. He also quit Fat Camp, which subsequently dissolved.
Christian Music Career
After closing his studio, Mineo toured with T.R.U.C.E and later released his debut mixtape, Sin is Wack. He then went on to perform vocals on Lecrae?s song ?Background? from his 2010 album Rehab and followed that up by singing on the song ?Reverse? from Tedashii?s 2011 album Blacklight.
Mineo claims that singing on ?Background? was his first attempt at vocals and the massive success of that song meant that he started receiving more requests to sing. His vocals signaled a shift for him, moving from an emcee to a singer. The Christian Manifesto, while analyzing the album Rehab, claimed that Mineo?s hook on ?Background? helped establish the album as one of the best Christian albums of all time. Mineo kept receiving offers to sing on songs and contributed to Flame?s song ?Put On? and The Ambassador?s ?The Reunion Cypha?.
Solo Work:
In July, 2011, Mineo signed with Reach Records. Prior to this he had worked under the stage name C-Lite, but after signing with Reach he dropped it and reverted back to his legal name.
Under his new label, Mineo started working on a mixtape and released it in September 2011. Titled Formerly Known, it was acclaimed by critics and The Christian Manifesto gave it a four star rating.
Heroes for Sale
Andy Mineo released his debt studio album in April 2013. Heroes for Sale featured a number of artists including Lecrae, Christon Gray, for KING & COUNTRY, Trip Lee and KB among others.
Due to Mineo?s rapid rise in the Christian music scene, the album had been highly anticipated; and he did not fail to impress. The album debuted at number eleven on the Billboard 200, at number four on the Top Rap Albums chart and at number one on the Top Christian Albums chart.
Uncomfortable
Mineo?s second album under Reach Records was released in September 2015. Titled Uncomfortable, it was another hit with critics and received an 8.5 out of 10 rating on Christian Core. The album debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200 and reached number three on the Top Rap Albums chart. It peaked at number one on the Top Christian Albums chart and the Independent Albums chart.
Mineo has been promoting Uncomfortable over the past few months and is now on Uncomfortable tour?s second leg. The rising star has already formed a solid fan base, which means that his concerts are well attended events. You can attend one of his concerts as well; all you need are Andy Mineo tickets.
