Melissa Etheridge Tickets by Cities
Melissa Etheridge was born on the 29th of May, in 1961, in Kansas. She graduated from the Leavenworth High School in 1979 and was a part of their dance/musical group. Her interest in music developed from a very young age, specifically at the age of 8, when she started playing her first ever guitar. Soon after, Melissa Etheridge was seen being a part of several country music groups, which were all-men, all through her teenage days. Then she enrolled in the Berklee College of Music in Boston and began playing in the club circuit. Three years after she dropped out and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her music career much more seriously. She was discovered by Bill Leopold, who worked as a manager in the music business, in a bar and before long she was noticed by Chris Blackwell, the chief of Island Records. She signed a deal and shortly began writing music for movies, including the movie ?Weeds?, in 1986. Before she had signed that deal, she had already sent a demo tape to Olivia Record in 1985, but had been rejected.
Melissa Etheridge then finally was able to release her self-titled debut album, which went on to become a huge underground hit. One of the songs from the album, "Bring Me Some Water" also became extremely popular and was even given a nomination at the Grammy Awards. As she was a lesbian, most of her songs were about the inner conflicting that she was experiencing at that time. Following the release of her album, she worked with Don Henley, on his album "The End of Innocence" as a background singer. Then she went on to record her next album "Brave and Crazy", which came out in 1989. Though was able to do only average business but still got nominated at the Grammy Awards and reached the 22nd spot on the Billboard charts. Melissa Etheridge?s third album, called "Never Enough" was released in the year 1992. It was again unable to make it to the top of the charts and reached at the 21st spot. But this album, finally gave this amazingly talented singer her first ever Grammy Award for the ?Best Rock Vocal Performance? by a female, for her song called "Ain?t it Heavy". This album of hers is believed to be a much more mature and a personal one.
Melissa Etheridge was finally able to break through and get the much deserved acclaim that had been elusive till then. In 1993 she released the album titled "Yes I Am" which made her a star over night. It stayed on the chats for almost 138 weeks and reached the 15th spot on the Billboard 200 charts. Some of its songs, like "Come to My Window" and "I?m the Only One" were major hits among the masses as well as critically acclaimed. In fact the song "I?m the Only One" peaked at the 1st spot on the Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart and was her only song to ever reach the Billboard Top 10. It is still considered to be her bestselling album ever. It went on to earn the RIAA certificate of 6x Platinum. Melissa Etheridge was the recipient of another Grammy Award that year, again for ?Best Rock Vocal Performance? by a female for her song "Come to My Window" along with being nominated for two more awards, both for ?Best Supporting Song?, for her songs "Come to My Window" and "I?m the Only One".
Her follow up album, titled "Your Little Secrets", was not received well by the critics but it still peaked at the 6th spot on the Billboard Album charts, becoming her highest ever charting album. The songs "Nowhere to Go" and "I Want to Come Over" became huge hits and were able to make it to the Top 40 singles. Since then she has released several albums, such as "Breakdown" in 1999, "Skin" in 2001, "Lucky" in 2004, "The Awakening" in 2007 and the very latest being "Fearless Love" in 2010.
