Brilliant like its previous performances, Milwaukee Ballet is returning with the “Spring Series” this time. This performance will feature three new contemporary dance selections backed with varied musical forms. The first performance will have an irresistible soundtrack given by Darell Grand Moultrie featuring classics like “For Once in my Life” , “The lady Is a Tramp,” and many others. In their much anticipated return, Matthew Neenan and Amy Seiwert will present two new works altogether. The Venezuelan choreographer Vincente Nebrada brings back the traditional dance in “Our Waltzes” with a live piano performance. The second selection is directed by Amy Seiwert who has done wonders to the divine “Mozart Requiem,” the supreme soundtrack for this performance. Formed in 1969, the Milwaukee Ballet gave its debut performance in 1970 at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Soon after, the company started playing at the Marcus Centre for the Performing Arts in Uihlein Hall. The company plays at the same venue even today. Getting to the heights of popularity and success, the company opened the Milwaukee Ballet School, one of its own affiliations. The school has an enrollment of over 1000 students at three locations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. Such is the popularity of this school that it is the only one in the Midwest acclaimed by National Association of School of Dance.
Holding around forty-five performances a year with an annual attendance of 50,000 people, the Company performs the famous “Nutcracker,” which has become its trademark since 1977. The resident company of Milwaukee Ballet has twenty three professional dancers with twenty trainees in The Nancy Einhorn Milwaukee Ballet II Program. It is one of the few dance companies in the country having a symphony orchestra of its own. Foundations like United Arts Funds, Hertzel Foundation and the Bradley Foundation have become sponsors to the production undertaken annually by the Milwaukee Ballet.
