The Sound Of Music Tickets

Based on the narrative of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, The Sound Of Music is a musical composed by Richard Rodgers. The lyricist is Oscar Hammerstein II and its book is by Russel Crouse and Howard Lindsay. The musical has been critically acclaimed for its fantastic score and sweet and romantic storyline and is often referred to as the timeless family classic. Set in Salzburg, Austria, right before the WWII, the story of The Sound Of Music is about a free-spirited Roman Catholic girl called Maria, who takes on as the governess of the seven children of an adorned Austrian war hero from WWI, known as Captain von Trapp. Maria brings love, happiness and singing into their house, which was under strict and militaristic control of the Captain. Maria soon wins the Captain's heart and they fall in love. However, the two lovers part when the World War II breaks out, and the Captain is sent into battle for Hitler's Third Reich. He then manages to arrange for his family to escape to the safety of Switzerland, away from perils of the war. The songs, such as final song So Long, Farewell is a heartening number, full of hope. It is a perfect anecdote to the circumstances in which the von Trapp family find themselves.

Casting Theodore Bikel as Captain Georg von Trapp and Mary Martin as Maria, the original Broadway production opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the November of 1959. It was directed by Vincent J. Donehue and choreographed by Joe Layton. The production won Tony for Best Musical and for Best Actress in a Musical - Mary Martin. Several other awards were alsoclaimed by the musical for different categories.

Ever since the inception of The Sound Of the Music, it has been enjoying several makings and revivals. Not only has it opened at various venues in different countries and cities, but the musical has also inspired a 1965 film musical. It was an Academy Award-winning film, starring Christopher Plummer and the very famous Julie Andrews.
