The Second City Cities

Let’s take a look at what this theater and its comedy is all about.

History of The Second City

The Second City opened its doors in Chicago, on a snowy, winter night in the December of 1959. Since then, it has grown to become the world’s premier comedy club, school of improvisation and theater. It features live shows every night in various cities such as Toronto, Chicago and Hollywood. The group based its performances on what it learned from the book of improvisation techniques by Spolin and recreated these according to their own individual style.

In recent years, the project was head by Andrew Alexander and his recently deceased partner, Len Stuart. They acquired The Second City in 1987. Alexander led the Second City for nearly 42 years and produced various television programs, including “Second City Presents”, “SCTV” and “Next Comedy Legend”.
