The Origins

The Count of Monte Cristo, as a musical, began in 2008 – over a century after the novel of the same name was written. The initial renditions of the play started superstar names from Broadway productions, many of whom were famously favorites of Frank Wildhom. The first recordings also starred some European theater artists and it took no time for the recordings to go platinum. The next year, The Count of Monte Cristo premiered, translated in German, in Switzerland and the year after that the musical’s first licensed international production premiered in Universal Arts Center in Seoul, Korea. The English-language US premier took place in 2015 and since then it has been one of the top favorites of theater fans in the country.
