Story

The 90-minute story is set in a remote Israeli town in the middle of a desert where mundane life goes on at the same pace. But things are about to change in the most unexpected way. After confusion at the border due to a language mix up, a band of Egyptian musicians arrive there lost. With no means of travel available they are left stranded and are taken in for the night by the friendly locals. And the night changes everything.

Under the vast beautiful sky, music speaks a language of its own as each side learns more about themselves and their shared humanity. The band’s visit touches souls and transforms the town, making it come alive.

The story reflects on how two different cultures find their common connection in one night with music, laughter and basic emotions that in essence connect us all. Even the briefest of visit can touch the souls in a way that brings a change wich lasts forever.

Creative Team

The celebrated musical is an adaptation of the Israeli movie made in 2007 with the same name by Israeli writer-director Eran Kolirin. The book  of the musical is by Drama Desk Award nominee Itamar Moses and the lyrics and brilliant music is crafted by David Yazbek who is a three-time Tony Award nominee and & Drama Desk Award winner.

Beginnings and Success

The musical is relatively new having premiered on Broadway in November 2017 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre and making the off Broadway premiere at The Atlantic Theater Company in 2016.

Since it made its way to the Broadway it has been a success and received overwhelming critical acclaim but the real attention came after it won 10 Tony awards out of the eleven it was nominated for in 2018.
