Stars On Ice Cities
Stars on Ice is a figure skating tour show that has been taking place for several years now. This show is produced by the world-renowned media and global sports business company, IMG (International Management Group). In addition to Stars on Ice, this company also manages popular events such as Britain's Strongest Man, World's Strongest Man, FIFA Futbol Mundial, and the Indian Premier League. The main brain behind Stars on Ice was Olympic gold medalist skater Scott Hamilton. In 1986, he left the travelling entertainment show Ice Capades and contacted IMG to produce a show similar to it. Initially, it was known as "Scott Hamilton's American Tour," which was later renamed Stars on Ice. Initially, Hamilton was actively touring with the show, but later he left skating; he continues to work as the show's producer.
Since the start, the pattern of the show has remained somewhat the same; it mainly focuses on an adult audience and features some high-profile skaters that perform either in groups or solo. It is somewhat similar to the other popular skating show Disney on Ice, but the skaters of Stars on Ice don't wear cartoon costumes. In 1991, the Canadian leg of the show kicked off, and since then it has been regularly doing tours.
Initially, there was little budget for Stars on Ice, but in 1992, IMG merged another ice show named "Skating" with Stars on Ice, and it started to expand. The good part of this merger was that seasoned Olympic skater and choreographer Sandra Bezic was also acquired. It was her hard work that played a pivotal role in making the show a hit. Bezic has since been replaced by director Jeff Billings. Till now, this show has won four Emmy Awards. Some of the renowned skaters that have been regularly touring in the past with this show were Dorothy Hamill, Brian Pockar, Rosalyn Sumners, and Toller Cranston. Current touring members in the US are Jamie Sale, Todd Eldredge, Michael Weiss, and Sasha Cohen. The Canadian leg of the tour included skaters such as Kurt Browning, Shawn Sawyer, Miki Ando, Koyoka Ina, and Tenith Belbin. For the Japan tour of 2011, the lineup included Takahiko Kozuka, Miki Ando, Takeshi Honda, Cathy Reed, Chris Reed, and Ben Agosto.
Stars on Ice 2011 tour was the 25th season, which clearly proves that the show is loved by millions across the globe. Stars on Ice keeps on bringing new things for the viewers, and this is one reason that they have won the ACE Cable Award for Best Sports Special. The show is truly mesmerizing; you have to see it to believe it, and for this, you just have to get Stars on Ice tickets.
