The Theatre World Award winning musical, The Lion King is set to perform at the Majestic Theatre this winter. Based on the animated Disney movie of the same title, the musical tells the life of the African Pride Lands where the young prince Simba is born to the Lion King.

The musical is produced by Disney Theatrical and features music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. The show debuted in 1997 and has been showing at packed houses at many renowned theatres since then. It has been watched by over 65 million people around the globe because of its touching story line, popular soundtracks and heartwarming characters. The Lion King has also been awarded with several other awards including puppet design, choreography, costume and sound design.  Julie Taymor, the director of Disney theatrical Lion King has been the first woman ever to win a Tony Award for "Best Director of a Musical".

The story follows the journey of Simba, the young lion and how he transforms from lion cub to be the King of Pridelands. It features visual maturity in addition to the compelling takes on moral challenges.  The musical features renowned tracks from the animated movieitself such as "Hakuna Matata", "Circle of Life" and many more. The plot is very much like the original whereby the evil is defeated by the good. The director has added more cultural richness on the stage version.
