The Broadway Production
Jesus Christ Superstar made its Broadway premiere at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on October 12, 1971. The show was directed by the three-time Drama Desk Award winning film director, composer and actor Tom O'Horgan. The show featured Jeff Fenholt as Jesus, Bob Bingham as Caiaphas and Ben Veeran as Judas. This production was closed on June 30, 1973 after completing 711 performances. The show generated quite a lot of buzz across the world and was nominated for five Tony Awards including one for, 'Best Original Score.'
