The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar comprises musical compositions by Andrew Lloyd Webber whereas the Tim Rice worked on the lyrics. Initially, the musical started off as a rock opera concept recording. It soon transformed into a live show and performed its first Broadway performance in 1971. Ian Gillian sung the part of Jesus in the original album whereas the part of Judas was sung by Murray Head. The title song of the musical Superstar sung by Murray was a big hit along with the song I Don't Know How to Love Him sung by Yvonne Elliman, that describes Mary’s bond with Jesus. The repertoire of popular songs also includes Everything's Alright and This Jesus Must Die.

The plot of the musical is taken from the Gospels of the Four Evangelists which illustrates the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The musical opens is Jerusalem where preparations are being done to welcome Jesus and his disciples. It also brings to attention the political and interpersonal conflicts between Judas and Jesus, the conflicts that are not part of the writings in Bible.
