The book for the musical is written by Thomas Meehan who draws inspiration from Harold Gray’s comic strip. Music is credited to Charles Strouse and lyrics are penned by Martin Charnin. The musical opened on Broadway in 1977 and ran for a good six years. It earned countless critical accolades, including eleven Tony nominations out of which it won seven; including the win for “Best Musical.”
