Aladdin’s Story

Aladdin is perhaps one of the most popular of characters and stories from The Arabian Nights. Aladdin is a poor young man who discovers a genie in a lamp. The genie grants him three wishes and he uses these wishes to marry the princess he’s in love with and also thwarts the evil designs of the Sultan’s Grand Vizier.

The main characters of the musical are Aladdin, Genie, Jasmine, Kassim, Babkak, Omar, lago, The Sultan, and Jafar. In the original Broadway production Adam Jacobs plays the role of Aladdin, Courtney Reed plays the role of Jasmine, James Monroe Iglehart plays the role of Genie, Brandon O’Neill plays the role of Kassim, Brian Gonzalez plays the role of Babkak, Jonathan Schwartz plays the role of Omar, Don Darryl Rivers plays the role of lago, Clifton Davis is The Sultan, while Jafar is played by Jonathan Freeman. Out of these actors, James Monroe Iglehart the “Genie” has won the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Award.
