The Start in the Early 1990s

War of the Worlds,” which was an eight-man tournament based on the elimination format and featured fighters that excelled in different fighting disciplines. This tournament served as the inspiration for the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993, which has grown to become one of the most popular and lucrative combat sports organizations in the world.

 After securing SEG as a television partner, the creators of the UFC, Rorion Gracie and Art Davie, developed the rules and format for the competition. They drew inspiration from various martial arts styles, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, and wrestling, to create a unique and exciting fighting spectacle that would appeal to fans of all combat sports. The first UFC event was held in November 1993, and it quickly gained a loyal following and set the stage for the rise of MMA as a major sport.

 UFC 1 was a tournament-style event that featured fighters of different disciplines, with Royce Gracie emerging as the first UFC champion by winning three fights via submission. The event was a success and paved the way for future UFC events, which have since become some of the most-watched combat sports events in the world.
