The world of MMA will explode into action in 2020 with the year’s first PPV set for January 18. The return of Conor McGregor has been the talk of the town ever since UFC President Dana White confirmed his bout with Cerrone for the UFC 246 main card. McGregor hasn’t fought under the UFC banner since his loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in November, 2018.

Despite the long absence, he remains one of the most illustrious names on the UFC roster. In fact, the Irish grappler is the biggest PPV attraction in the history of mixed martial arts. Till now, he has headlined five of the six highest-selling PPV events organized by the UFC.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, McGregor holds a number of records in the sport. He is the first-ever UFC competitor to simultaneously hold titles in two weight classes. The first one came at UFC 194 where McGregor got the better of the then UFC Featherweight Champion José Aldo to take the belt.

It took the Irishman 13 seconds in the first round to secure the win via knockout. To date, this remains the quickest championship triumph in UFC history.With the featherweight title under his belt, McGregor went on to beat Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to claim the lightweight championship.

Standing in the way of The Notorious at UFC 246 is former professional kickboxer DonaldCerrone. During his time in the UFC, the Cowboy has won various accolades including multiple Submission of the Night, Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night bonuses.

A native of Denver, Cerrone is the record holder for the highest number of takedowns in the history of UFC. He has also challenged for the UFC lightweight title in the past and will be looking to put himself in contention for another championship opportunity by upsetting the odds at UFC 246. Holly Holm vs. Racquel Pennington

Another UFC competitor making her return at UFC 246 is former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Holly Holm. This clash against the hard-hitting Pennington was originally supposed to take place at UFC 243. However, a hamstring injury put Holm on the sidelines. She is now ready to go with the aim of putting herself back into the fray for a future championship opportunity.

A former professional boxer, Holm has won titles in almost every combat sport she has been involved in. The Albuquerque native is a multiple-time boxing world champ, having defended her title an astonishing 18 times across three weight categories.

Her most notable UFC win came against the mighty Ronda Rousey, whom she beat to capture the women’s bantamweight crown. In the process, she inflicted the first UFC loss on Rousey. This remains one of the greatest upsets ever in combat sports.

Holm will go head-to-head with Racquel Pennington on January 18. Pennington is considered one of the toughest fighters in all of MMA. She has previously fought for the Invicta Fighting Championships as well as The Ultimate Fighter. Hailing from Colorado, Pennington is number 6 on the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Rankings. It promises to be a great fight between two highly-rated contenders.
