The Toronto Blue Jays: A Bit of History

The Toronto Blue Jays became a part of the baseball fraternity in the year 1977. In January of 1976, the owner of the San Francisco Giants, Horace Stoneham decided to sell the franchise to a consortium from Toronto. The team's name was to be changed to the Toronto Giants and they were to start playing in the 1976 with the Exhibition Stadium their new home. A court ruling however prevented that deal from happening. Bob Lurie bought the franchise and kept it based in San Francisco.

On the other hand, Toronto had renovated the Exhibition Stadium to accommodate a baseball side. So, they began to push the MLB to give the city an expansion franchise. Their hard work paid off and Toronto was awarded its own baseball team.

The Toronto Blue Jays: Performance on the Field

As it happens with a lot of expansion teams, it took the Toronto Blue Jays a while to get going. They put their first winning season on the board in 1983 and then won their first major title, a division championship two years after that.

Between 1985 and 1993, the Blue Jays became a force to be reckoned with and won a total of five division titles in nine campaigns. They also won two straight pennants in 1992 and 1993. The highlight of that run however remains the Blue Jays two World Series triumphs. They reached the top of the MLB Mountain twice in as many seasons (1992 and 1993). The Blue Jays struggled for form after that but bounced back in 2015 to win their sixth division championship.

The New York Yankees: The Birth of a Juggernaut

Ban Johnson was the president of the Western League, a minor league, and in late 1900 he decided to reorganize the league. He added three new teams from the East Coast to the league and thus incepted the American League to take on the National League. His plans to induct a New York based side were blocked and so he put a team in Baltimore and named it the Orioles.

The team started playing in the year 1901and John McGraw became the manager as well as partial owner. After a disagreement with Johnson, McGraw made the move to the Giants during the middle of the 1902 season. The Giants got controlling interest in the Baltimore based team and started to buy their players. The AL had to intervene to regain control of the franchise.

In January of 1903, a meeting was held to iron out issues between the AL and the NL and Johnson asked to put a new side in New York. It was put to a vote, and 15 of the 16 members voted in favor of the proposal. The Orioles re-located to New York and became the Highlanders. That named was changed to the Yankees in 1913.

The New York Yankees: An Incomparable Legacy

The New York Yankees have lifted an incredible twenty seven World Series titles, the most by any side in history. They have also won forty American League Pennants and eighteen East Division Championships, both MLB records too. No other side in all four professional sports league in the United States has won more championships than the New York Yankees. The Yankees last won the World Series in 2009 and they will be eager to reach those heights this season.

Blue Jays Vs Yankees: The Rivalry In Numbers
