Some of the toughest college basketball teams call the Pac 12 Conference home. Many of these, including the UCLA Bruins and the Arizona Wildcats, have won the National NCAA Tournament championship multiple times. Every year, the teams compete for the Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament championship, with the winner receiving an automatic bid for the NCAA championship. Fans of college basketball eagerly await each year for the Pacific Life Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament, which features some of the strongest basketball teams in the country. These teams are members of the Pacific–12 Conference, home to twelve remarkable American universities. This tournament is a single elimination tournament and takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada. The tournament was founded in 1987 and has taken place every year since then. In 2013, the tournament's champions and this year's defending champions were the Oregon Ducks men's basketball team. As with last year, many have already pre–ordered Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament tickets for this year's championship.

The Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team has won the most Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament championships. In the media, the tournament's television partners are ESPN and Fox Sports 1, as of 2013. Formerly, the championship was broadcast live by CBS and FSN. This basketball tournament, featuring teams from the Pacific–12 Conference, has been sponsored since 2003 by Pacific Life. From 2013 to 2015, the tournament's host is the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Previously, the championship was played for ten years at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament, known fully as the Pacific Life Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament, and often referred to by fans as simply the Pac–12 Tournament, has risen to become one of the most attended in the country. Previously, teams had qualified for the NCAA Tournament through a system in which the regular season round–robin champion was determined. It was one of three conferences that was still using this format. In 1987, this was changed with the first tournament hosted by UCLA, whose UCLA Bruins men's basketball team won the first championship.

The following three tournaments were then won, consecutively, by the Arizona Wildcats men's basketball team. In 1990, however, the championship was dropped and not held until 2001. During this time, the older format was used, with regular season champions competing in the National NCAA Tournament, with both the UCLA Bruins and the Arizona Wildcats winning national NCAA championships. In 2001, the tournament was restarted and has been held since then. The Arizona Wildcats have won four tournament championships, with the Oregon Ducks, the UCLA Bruins and the Washington Huskies winning three each. For this year's championship games, Pac 12 Men's Basketball Tournament tickets are already on sale.
