Denver Nuggets: A brief history
The Denver Nuggets was founded in 1967 as the Denver Larks as a charter franchise of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Before the first season could begin, the team’s name was changed to the Denver Rockets. The team showed a lot of potential during its initial years and finished at the third spot in the Western Division during their first two seasons. In the 1969-70 season, the Denver Rockets won the division semifinals against the Washington Caps but unfortunately lost the division finals to the Anaheim Amigos/Los Angeles Stars, finishing first in the Western Division. The team qualified two more times for the playoffs before their name was once again altered to the Denver Nuggets in 1974.
Asserting their dominance
As Denver Nuggets, the team played for the last ABA Championship title in 1976, losing to the New York Nets 4-2. Following that season, the ABA-NBA merger took place which led to the team winning its first two Division titles consecutively in 1977 and 1978. They continued their strong play and won five more Division crowns in 1985, 1988, 2006, 2009 and 2010. The team made its last playoff appearance in 2013 before they started struggling with their performances.

After five years, the Denver Nuggets have finally qualified for the playoffs. They did that by defeating the Boston Celtics, 114-105. After their big win, the team’s coach, Michael Malone expressed his excitement in these words: “It’s party time. If you don’t celebrate it, we’ve worked too hard.”
