United Mexican States also called as simply Mexico, a federal constitutional republic situated in North American continent, in the south of the United States. It is the most populous Spanish speaking country and 11th most populous country of the world having an estimated total population of 111 million. It has 31 states that are governed by a federal district called the capital city.

People in Mexico are known for their liveliness, passion for sports as well as food. In Sinaloa, Mexico, a modern version of probably the same game is still played with the name of Ulama.

One of the games popular in Mexico now days is Charreria, which is also one of the national sports of Mexico. Traditional cowboy or horseman of Mexican region is referred to as a Charro in local language, and a game similar to rodeo is played by them. A series of such games and events is played in this region with the name of Charreria. It is organized by the Mexican Federation of Charreria.

Bullfighting has always been a Spanish tradition, and as Mexico contains a huge number of Spanish colonists, Bullfighting was also introduced here, enjoying the status of one of the most popular games in this region for over 400 years. Plaza Mexico in the Mexico City is the world’s largest bullring and is a proof for the popularity of this game in this region.

Apart from these traditional games, Mexico has a very congenial atmosphere for development of modern games including football, boxing and others. Football was introduced in this country in early 1900s, and the first official football club in this country still continues to operate with the name of C.F. Pachuca. The football season in Mexico is split into a summer and a winter season instead of a single long season like other parts of the world, called as Verano and Invierno, or Apertura and Clausura respectively. Officially, the game of football and teams playing it are promoted by a central body called Federacion Mexicana de Futbol Asociacion, or Federal Mexican Football Association. Estadio Azteca is one of the largest football stadiums in the world, and has the privilege of hosting two world cup finals. The national football team for Mexico also has a great track record, winning its first world championship titled FIFA Confederations Cup 1999 among many other titles.

Boxing enjoys being the second most popular sport in Mexico. The number of world champions that belong to Mexico is largest in the world, second only to the United States. Many of the boxers from Mexico have been inducted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame, including Salvador Sanchez, Baby Arizmendi, Ricardo Lopez, Ruben Oliveres, Jose Napoles, Pipino Cuevas, Sugar Ramos, Chiquita Gonzalez, Daniel Zaragoza, Vicente Saldivar, Miguel Canto and Carlos Zarate, while boxers like Juan Manuel Marquez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Kid Azteca and many others have been included in World Boxing Hall of Fame.

Mexico also promotes games like basketball and baseball among its public, and it is evident by many intercontinental and international titles that belong to Mexico in these sports. The country has produced many champions in these sports that are celebrated by the nation for their outstanding performance in their respective sports. Among other sports activities that Mexican sportsmen are renowned are included Auto racing, Basque Pelota, American Football, Ice hockey and Polo. Mexican car racing champion Pedro Rodriguez and his brother Ricardo Rodriguez have been some of the youngest drivers to reach such a great position as international champions.
