Ecuador made it to the Round of 16 for the first time ever in 2006 and they will be looking to go a step or two further this time around. Although they failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2010, they have joined the league of the football elite for 2014 to compete in the biggest tournament soccer has to offer. There is a lot of excitement in the country because of that and hopes are high that this crop of players will make the nation proud. The talent is there for everyone to see, now it is only a matter of realizing that potential. Book your Ecuador tickets and watch your favorite team in action live among some of the best countries in the world today.
Ecuador have made it to their third World Cup. They are among the fastest rising teams from the continent. A lot of their players have joined some of the biggest clubs in the world. Antonio Valencia of Manchester United is arguably their most popular player and the fact he is playing for a big club in Europe is a great advert for Ecuadorian soccer. If you are a fan of South American soccer, then this is your chance to book Ecuador tickets and watch them play live.
Ecuador and the FIFA World Cup have a very interesting history. This South American nation didn’t take part in the inaugural edition of soccer’s showpiece event in the year 1930. They however went on to play their first ever international game three years after that. They took on their South American counterparts Bolivia on 8th August, 1938 in that encounter. It was quite a good game that finished 1-1.
Ecuador entered qualification for the World Cup for the first time in the year 1950 but decided to forfeit that chance. The nation let go of the chance to make it to the next two editions as well but all that changed when qualification round started for the FIFA World Cup that was to be held in the year 1962. Ecuador put its name in the hat for qualification but failed to do get qualified. That remained the case for quite some time before the nation finally made it to the FIFA World Cup in 2002.
Agustin Delgado scored the country’s first ever World Cup goal when he found the net against Mexico in their second group game. The Ecuadorians lost that encounter by a 2-1 score though. They then went one step further and recorded their first ever win by beating Croatia by one goal to nil. Ecuador failed to make it to the next round but the experience of playing in their first ever World Cup put the country on the map.
Ecuador made it to the next edition of the World Cup too. They were joined by Germany, Poland and Costa Rica in a pretty tough group but Ecuador beat Poland and Costa Rica to make it to the second round alongside Germany. They were pitted against England in the next round and after a very close game, Ecuador lost that particular game 1-0.
Ecuador failed to qualify for the last World Cup which was held in South Africa but have made it to this year’s edition in Brazil. They will be in Group E alongside teams like France, Honduras and Switzerland. It looks quite a close group on paper and Ecuador will be hoping they are one of the two sides who make it to the next stage. They will have to play well to do that but they have the squad capable of doing more than that.
