Del Mar Thoroughbred racing comprises of multiple races held all throughout the summer at this famous horse racing venue. It was in 1930’s that actors like "Bing Crosby," "Joe E. Brown," "Pat O’Brien," "Oliver Hardy," "Gary Cooper" and "Charles S. Howard" got together and entered into a partnership together to create a new horse racing track. Their efforts and hard work materialized in the form of the "Del Mar’’ in the year 1937.

 A year and a month later on 12th August, 1938 a race was took place between two thoroughbred horses "Ligaroti" and "Seabiscuit." They were owned by "Binglin Stable" and Charles S. Howard" respectively. The prize up for grabs was twenty five thousand dollars.  The race generated a lot of excitement and hype. So much so that NBC radio gave running commentary on it too. The contest itself did not disappoint. In what turned out to be an extremely close race, Seabiscuit came out on top with just its nose in front.

The start of the next decade saw a lot of famous Hollywood people make their way to the "Del Mar’’ but the World War ensured that no activity took place at the track for the next few years. The "Bing Cosby Stakes" then held its first edition in the year 1946. The recommencement of races once again enticed the rich and famous to make their presence felt at the "Del Mar" and that is a trend which has continued to this day. It has grown in stature over the course of subsequent years to now rank among the most renowned thoroughbred facilities in the country today.

The "Del Mar’’ has a turf that is made up of "Hybrid Bermuda" and "Common Bermuda." It has a stable that can contain a staggerring two thousand horses. With summers now here, the Del Mar Thoroughbred racing season is also about to start proceedings.
