Competing as members of the Pacific 12 Conference and NCAA's Division I (FBS), the Colorado Buffaloes represent the University of Colorado Boulder. The Colorado Buffaloes are among some of the finest athletic programs in the nation, and are ranked #4 in Sports Illustrated's America's Best Sports College category.
Over the years, the Colorado Buffaloes have claimed a total of twenty-four National Championships, with eighteen of those championships coming in Skiing alone. Three championships were claimed by the Men's Cross Country team, two by the Women's Cross Country team, and one by the football team. In addition to their national championships, the Colorado Buffaloes have also brought home twenty-seven conference championships.
The Colorado Buffaloes football team is one of the most successful in college sports. They are ranked 16th on the NCAA Division I All-time win list and 22nd for having the highest all-time winning percentage. The Buffaloes' football program began in 1890, and in 2006, the team played its 1,100th game against Nebraska.
Throughout the course of history, the Colorado Buffaloes football team has enjoyed much success, having played their inaugural season back in 1890. During that long period, they have made a number of Bowl game appearances, and have won it on several occasions as well. Among their long list of accomplishments is their one and only National Championship title, which they claimed under the leadership of head coach Bill McCartney.
The Colorado Buffaloes Men’s Basketball team has also done a sound job in keeping the legacy of the Buffaloes going. The team competes in the Pacific 12 Conference and has made it to the NCAA Tournament ten times. Moreover, they have also managed to reach the Final Four on two occasions. They have also registered nine National Invitation Tournament appearances, with one win in 1940. Presently, the team is being coached by Tad Boyle and they play their home games at the Coors Events Center.
When it comes to the sport of skiing, the Colorado Buffaloes maintain their tradition of maintaining a dominant position in the entire NCAA. The Buffaloes' skiing team has won the most National Championships for the University compared to any other sporting program offered at the University. So far, the team has claimed seventeen National Championship titles, including the most recent one in 2011. In addition to the national championships, the Buffaloes also have twenty-five RMISA championships to their list of accomplishments. In terms of individual champions, the Buffaloes boast having eighty-three individual NCAA Champions.
