Los Angeles Clippers: A brief history
Founded in 1970, the Los Angeles Clippers play in the National Basketball Association as a part of the Pacific Division of the league’s Western Conference. They currently play their home games at the Staples Center which is also home to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL.
The Los Angeles Clippers were initially founded as the Buffalo Braves. As the Braves, the team only qualified three times for the playoffs in 1973, 1974 and 1975. They later moved to San Diego, California in 1978 and became the San Diego Clippers. The team only played six seasons before they were relocated to Los Angeles. As the LA Clippers, the team its first season in 1984 and finished fourth in the Pacific division. They continued to struggle for the next six seasons before the team finally qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 1991. However, they were eliminated by the Utah Jazz, 2-3. The following year, they once again made the postseason but lost the first round to Houston Rockets, 2-3.
The fortunes of the Los Angeles Clippers changed when they acquired core players, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. In 2012, the team qualified for the playoffs but lost the first round to Memphis Grizzlies, 2-4. A year later, they bounced back and won their first division title and finished first in the Pacific division. The team clinched their second division crown in 2014.
