They played in Teaneck for only one season before moving to the Long Island Arena in Commack, New York for the following season. The team then moved to New York City and changed its name to the New York Nets in 1970. As the New York Nets, the team won two championships in the American Basketball Association in 1974 and 1976 before joining the NBA in 1976. After the move to the NBA, the team played in various locations, including Long Island, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, before settling in Brooklyn in 2012 and adopting their current name, the Brooklyn Nets.

They won ABA championships in 1974 and 1976, with Julius Erving being a key player on both championship teams. After the ABA-NBA merger, the Nets joined the NBA in 1976 and played in various locations, including New Jersey and Long Island, before ultimately relocating to Brooklyn in 2012.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the Brooklyn Nets experienced moderate success, making the playoffs several times, but never winning a championship. During the early 2000s, however, the team became a contender in the Eastern Conference. Led by players like Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, and Kenyon Martin, the Nets won back-to-back Eastern Conference championships in 2002 and 2003, though they lost in the NBA Finals both times to the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs, respectively.   In 2012, the team moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn and became the Brooklyn Nets. Since the move, the team has made several playoff appearances, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 2003, but has yet to win a championship. With a talented roster led by superstars Kevin Durant and James Harden, the Nets are once again a top contender in the Eastern Conference and are poised to make a deep run in the playoffs.
