The Atlanta Falcons were formed way back in the year 1965. They did not qualify for the playoffs during the first twelve seasons. It was in the year 1978 that they ended the jinx for the first time. They went all the way to the divisional playoffs that year. In 1980, the Atlanta Falcons returned to the postseason for the second time and also clinched their maiden division crown that year.
In 1998, the Falcons won their second division title and then beat the Minnesota Vikings to lift their first conference title. In the Super Bowl, they faced the Denver Broncos but lost 34-19. The franchise clinched its second conference title in 2016 but unfortunately lost in the Super Bowl once again.

The Atlanta Falcons’ two biggest rivals are the Carolina Panthers and the New Orleans Saints.

The Panthers and Falcons, both from the NFC South, have played against one another twice a year since 1995. It is dubbed the “I-85 Rivalry” since the home-cities of both teams are just hours away via Interstate 85. The New Orleans Saints
