The electronic rock band Sound Tribe Sector 9 or STS9 represent great music of today. They are an experimental outfit that has fused instrumental, electronic and rock music. Many other genres from soul to funk influence their work. Their beats are mainly jazzy with hints of hip-hop and psychedelic drums. However, the band sees itself as a "post-rock dance" outfit. Sound Tribe Sector 9 was formed ten years ago in Atlanta. The original lineup had Hunter Brown on guitar/midi keyboard, David Phipps on keyboards, Jeffree Lerner on percussion/handsonic, David Murphy on bass/midi keyboard and Zach Velmer on drums. The original lineup remains strong even today. The band resides on the misty coastline of Santa Cruz. It continues to make the most savvy rock dance of our times.

About Sts9

STS9 is a band whose instrumental electronic rock is very different. It makes use of a wide range of DJ mixing with live rock guitar solos and group rhythm. This kind of unique style made this band a top notch mainstream act. They were famous in the local clubs when Landslide Record signed them in the late nineties. The band released their first three albums under this label. They became a sensation when the debut Interplanetary Escape Vehicle, hit mainstream. The success of this album was followed by live touring. Next in line was Sector 9-The Brown Album the band’s first live compilation. Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace was also super hits in the clubbing circuits.

The band formed their own, 1320 records in 2001 and released their second live album Seasons 01. In 2003, Live at Home and Artifact in 2005, gave the band its first commercial break. Artifact became a top hit on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart. This album was also special because it started a remix mania. Artifact: Remixes Vol.1 and Artifact: Perspectives were two remix albums released that took care of the craze. In 2008 the Peaceblaster and its follow-up remix album Peaceblaster: The New Orleans Make it Right Remixes came out. They once again revived the remix craze for the fans. In 2009 the band released its tenth album Ad Explorata. A little later Rohto V Exclusive was released. Both these albums showed the band was becoming more and more adventurous. The best told adventure was Axe The Cables, a Live Acoustic collection. Released in 2010, this was a compilation of all acoustic instrumentals played by the band in a theater in Denver. The album was praised by fans and critics alike. The follow-up tour of this album took the band to perform to sold-out venues. STS9 tickets were really hard to find when the band went on this country wide tour. In 2011, When The Dust Settles hit stands. This album had a more energetic style compared to previous albums, and showed that Sound Tribe Sector 9 still had more to offer.
STS9 became popular mostly due to its live instrumental performances. They are still one of a kind with surprises for first timers and retuning fans. Their innovation and creativity is simply. It is hard to imagine combining of two very different forms like dance and rock. The band did this in a very artistic way. They extended their sound from simple instrumentals to audio-visual. They used visual effects to capture the raw energy of their music. No wonder their music plays not only to the ears but to the eyes as well! STS9 has mostly been a part of live touring and clubbing. Critics and fans love them for their edge cutting rock style. The force of their audio-visual combination was always very strong. It was equally impressive to electronica and rock fans.

No wonder the band has a large fan following that continues to grow. An example of this is that for the summer of 2012, when the band was ranked as number twenty five on the top-grossing touring acts by Pollstar. A very interesting part of their touring history is the multi-city tour in 2010. Over here the band opened for names such as Big Boi, Thievery Corporation and Ghostland Observatory. This tour became exceptional when two of the shows in Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre were sold out. The band is regularly seen performing at musical festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonaro, Austin City Limits, Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival.
