Coming off from the family of Rock and Roll, Switchfoot is a band that is an icon of a genre of their own. Never being able to fit into any predefined genre box, the band is a vivid expression of varieties of music forms from pop to rock. It stands as an outfit that has excelled in supporting its stance successfully and that too in its own right. This act is headed by vocalist and songwriter Jon Foreman with Jim Foreman on the Bass, backing vocals by Drew Shirley and Jerome Fontamillas on the Guitars and Chad Butler on the Drums. The band has its own story that is all about taking a risky step forward to add another dimension to rock and roll. With this view to look for and cast an intrinsic change, Switchfoot emerged as an effort by the trio Tim, Chad and Jerome.

About Switchfoot

With a six year experience of playing live and in studio, the band has achieved much more than anyone in the mainstream race. Rising from the Pacific’s foam, the surfing dudes from San Diego came together to form a band. Inspired from the local music icons Mark Trombino, Rob Crow and John Reese, the boys indulged in session play of music. Influences as wide and as diverse as Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Police, James Taylor and Miles Davis; allowed the band to explore various dimensions, sound and genre. Resultantly the band’s sound was a mere reflection of what they had heard and created after expressing a variety of music imprints. Each song produced by the band is rock and roll to the core and very much vibrant are true in spirit.
Beginning in the mid nineties, the band members shared a common love of disparate music forms. As a garage band it spent initial years with rigorous workouts to finally hit the road and began touring and playing live. Re:Think Records  became the band’s first label that scouted them from underground gigs up to the creation of Legend of Chin (1997). The sophomore New Way to Be Human and Learning to Breathe came out shortly to satiate the growing demand for the band’s fresh, one of its kind music. However, this was just the beginning as Learning to Breathe became the first critically acclaimed album. It bagged the ASCAP San Diego Music Award in the Best Pop Album and Best Pop Artist categories. It also won the 2002 ASCAP San Diego Music Award for the Best Adult Alternative album. The album featured five songs for the OST of a Walk to Remember.
The Beautiful Letdown was a phenomenal commercial success. It hit top charts with the single “Meant to Live”.  Columbia intervened here and took over the band for its next release. The album also became the fastest-selling album overall. Consequently, The Beautiful Letdown called for a cross country sold-out tour. This three-month headlining tour also saw the band collaborate with Jane's Addiction and Audioslave. The band was able to leave such a mark on the audiences that they always came back flocking at the venues in larger numbers than before. More so, the band’s performances also got a more cultured feel once they came at the famous broadcast shows Last Call with Carson Daly and the Late Show with Craig Kilborn.
The band’s career in mainstream music is a great inspiration. More than forty of its songs have become a part of TV series. Their songs explore the world, challenging life and pretentions. It also reflects upon the way the trio wrestle off the tensions to seek freedom and love.  No wonder they fit well for show like Felicity and David’s Creek where they have been used for intense and fun scenes.
The outfit’s music is a rather commendable amalgam of rock with explosive guitars and intense rhythmic drumming. Their music takes rock beyond a pop-culture that communicates with its listeners in a direct way. They don’t feel alienated by the music, it feels so very natural. Hence, the band’s music is enjoyed with no boundaries or reservation of thought. The band mates predominantly rely on swirling guitars wrapping harmonious melodies. The musical textures felt upon and after hearing a song are striking, energetic and sensual.
Switchfoot is a band that shied away from playing live. Today live music is their best loved strength. Switchfoot tickets let fans enjoy this live side once again.
