About Eric Roberson

His degree in Music Theatre was a result of the scholarship he won to Howard University in 1990. His first single which reached the R&B/Hip Hop Billboards Top 100 Chart in 1994 got him early recognition. He gained a lot of attention after organizing a number of different plays and musicals. His efforts earned him a songwriting deal with EMI label. His deal with EMI was probably the turning point of his career. His storytelling ability was put to the test in the songwriting deal in which he collaborated with many artists. He was noted for his ability to convert any story into song lyrics easily. His music, particularly the lyrics of his songs basically revolve around the stories of his life. Roberson through his music used the art of storytelling to influence his listeners and develop a personal connection with them.

He played a huge role in getting song lyrics for Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Songwriting is Roberson’s number one passion and he worked with numerous artists even after the deal ended. Roberson worked with many artists from Philadelphia after the deal such as Masiq Soulchild and Jill Scott. He worked with DJ Jazzy Jeff on a number of his albums and was part of his production company ‘A Touch Of Jazz’. Roberson’s work can be seen on the album ‘The Magnificent’ in 2002. He also contributed his own ideas for their live shows which helped him gain more recognition. Being an unsigned artist, he established his own label ‘Blue Erro Soul’ in 2001. His first project titled ‘The Esoteric Movement’ was released through it along with 7 other independent projects including the latest project ‘Mister Nice Guy?’ which was released in 2011. He has sold more than 80,000 CD’s independently through his label and has hosted many digital downloads. The label allowed Roberson to tour internationally and nationally with most of his crowds consisting of thousands of people. He still writes songs for a number of artists and releases his own work through his own label ‘Blue Erro Soul’.  His continuous contribution through his label ‘Blue Erro Soul’ has earned him a lot of respect.

The talented artist also appeared on ‘Intergalactic Soul’ which was an LP by DJ Spinna released in 2006. He was nominated for a Grammy Award once in 2010 and again in 2011, along with a 2007 BET Awards nomination and a 2009 Soult Train Award nomination. Eric Roberson is now a well known songwriter, singer and producer. His gained recognition even when his competition consisted of renowned record labels, mainstream radio and firmly established artists. All the competition did not discourage him from working as an independent artist and his efforts have made him one of the most successful unsigned artists of today. He derives his music from a number of different genres including Rhythm & Blues, Soul, Jazz, Rock and Hip-Hop. He makes use of his creativity to produce impressive music, without limiting himself to just one particular genre. Roberson is mostly known for his poetic progressive music and his humility.

He is a very dynamic live performer and has always come up with a different idea for each and every one of his live shows.
