About Daniil Trifonov

 
Born in 1991, Daniil discovered his love for music at an early age. He started playing piano at age five. He studied music under the famous Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin Special School of Music. At seventeen years of age, Daniil managed to won the ‘3rd International Piano Competition of San Marino’. During the same year, he also competed in the ‘4th International Scriabin Competition’ and won the fifth prize. Since then, Daniil has won several international competitions that have managed to put him in the limelight. In 2010, the young artist charmed the audience at the ‘XVI International Chopin Piano Competition’, bagging a medal for his performance. The following year, he participated at the ‘13th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition’ and won the contest as well as other major awards including the ‘Audience Favorite Prize’ and the ‘Best Performer of Chamber Music Prize’. In the same year, Daniil spellbound critics and veteran pianists with his performance at the ‘XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition’. He won the competition and was awarded the ‘Gran Prix’ along with a gold medal. He also bagged the ‘Best Performer of Chamber Concerto’ and the ‘Audience Award’ at the event.
 
Martha Argerich of Financial Times, describes Daniil as “everything and more”. She praises Daniil’s technical ability and says, “He has tenderness and also the demonic element. I never heard anything like that”. In 2012, Daniil marked his debut with numerous international orchestras including Russian National Orchestra, Mariinsky Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He also collaborated with acclaimed composers and conductors including Antoni Wit, Diego Matheuz, Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Pletnev and Gergiev. During this season, Daniil toured throughout Asia, Europe, South America and North America, performing at major concert venues including Suntory Hall Tokyo, Carnegie Hall New York, Salle Pleyel Paris, Musikverein Vienna and the Wigmore Hall London.
 
In 2012, Daniil also made his debut at some of the Europe’s major festivals. He played at the Klavier Festival Ruhr, La Roque d’Antheron, Grafenegg, Edinburgh, Tivoli, Montreux and the Verbier Festival. The young artist has made several recordings for television in Italy, US, Japan and Poland. He also recorded solo piano works of Chopin and released them on a CD in 2011. The CD was well received by the critics and fans. The following year he collaborated with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Gergiev to record the ‘Piano Concerto No. 1’ by Tchaikovsky.
