To this date, the group has released four studio albums which includes doo wop influenced original material as well as cover albums. Releases in 1996, “Looking for an Echo” is the group’s most significant achievement. With soulful vocals of Kenny Vance, The Planotones has reached new heights of success in the past few years.
Brooklyn based doo-wop style group, The Token gave their first commercial hit in 1961with the release of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” which was a chart topping single. The same year, another one of their hit songs “Tonight I Fell in Love” was released. The song reached number fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100 list. The group is best known for the soaring falsetto of Jay Siegel, the multitalented musician who joined The Tokens in 1956, a year later after its formation as The Linc-Tones. With Siegel, The Tokens continued to release hit pop classics like “He’s So Fine,” “Candida,” “Denise,” “See You in September” and “I Got Rhythm.”
Jimmy Clanton, known as the “swamp pop R&B teenage idol,” is the most popular singer to have emerged out of the teen music wave of the 50s and 60s. 1996 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Shirley Reeves has produced a series of hit songs throughout the 1960s.
