The Steely Dan was known to have been formed in the early 1070s. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen are known to be the main members of this band. The Steely Dan, more than a rock band, was known to be the brainchild of two entrepreneurs of music. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen met for the first time at the college named the Bard College in New York City, in the year 1967. After they met, they immediately realized that they enjoyed the same kind of music as well as listening to the same jazz radio stations. The band, Steely Dan’s lyrics are often considered to be very eccentric and wry are known to be full of sarcasm that is sharp as well as touching upon themes such as love, affairs, drugs, crime and even their own very true to life experiences. Both the members are perfectionists in the recording studio, to the point of being obsessive about it. They use as many as 42 different musicians in the studio, almost 11 engineers and sometimes even take more than a year to create an album.

Steely Dan released their first album called Can’t Buy a Thrill in the year 1972. This album, with its two hit singles Do It Again and Reelin’ In The Years which reached the 6th spot and the 11th spot respectively on the singles chart on the Billboard, made an instant impression. These two songs and another called Dirty Work by Steely Dan have eventually become the staples classic rock radio. Then Steely Dan released their second album called Countdown to Ecstasy in the year 1973. This album of theirs was unable to reach the height of commercial success that the first album had been able to achieve. The singles of this album included the songs My Old School and Show Biz Kid. Both of these songs failed to make any kind of significant impression on the charts. But the song My Old School has become a minor part of the staples on the FM Rock over the years. Both of these albums of the Steely Dan were band oriented.  All of the six albums that they releases during the years 1972 till 1978 reached the US Album charts as the Top 40 and they album they released in the year 1977 even climbed up to the third spot on the charts. The Steely Dan started touring in the years 1972 till 1974 continuously. Then in 1993 they again resumed playing in live concerts throughout America. The tour continued till 1996 and received great acclaim.

In the 21st century Steely Dan released two new albums and the first one even won them a Grammy Award for 'Album of the Year'. Steely Dan are known to have sold over 30 million albums all over the world and have been included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the yeah 2001 in March.

The jazz rock band Steely Dan recently announced their nine-night residency at the Opaline Theatre at The Venetian Las Vegas. Joining Donald and Walter will be a group of acclaimed musicians that have famously supported the band in recent years. These include Jon Herington on guitar, Jim Beard on keyboard, Freddie Washington on bass and Carolyn Leonhart, La Tanya Hall and Cindy Mizelle on backing vocals.

The American rock band has announced a new series of tour dates spread through summer and fall. It will include multi-night residencies in some Northeast cities as well as one and two-night shows in other locations.

Steely Dan and Steve Winwood Unite for a North American Tour

Legendary band Steely Dan is joining forces with Steve Winwood for a North American trek in the 2020 summers. The tour billed Earth After Hours is a 23-date run that will see the iconic acts cruise across cities in the US. The trek gets underway on June 2 with a performance in Portland, OR and culminates on July 11 in Bethel, NY.

Steely Dan came together five decades back. In 2017, the band faced a setback with the death of Walter Becker, leaving only one original member, Donald Fagen from the band who continues to perform under the band’s name.
