Beginnings

This tale of glory wasn’t always like this when they started as Kara’s Flowers- the LA Grunge outfit, in fact their plight was quite the opposite. The band came together in 1994 and featured high school friends Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Maddin and Ryan Dusick. At that time, they were just like another high school band playing under the sway of Pearl Jam and Nirvana. They tried it all from heavy brooding to bright loud pop leading to a couple of tours. They were able to get signed onto Reprise Records roster and released their debut album The Fourth World in 1997, but soon disbanded.

Breakthrough

In 2002, they returned as Maroon 5 with an inclination towards blues and pop. This time their guitarist was James Valentine instead of Ryan Dusick. This time they were more in control of what they were doing and had every intention to make it right. This was quite evident from the release of their debut album “Songs About Jane". Maroon 5 really reached cloud nine upon the release of the record. 

The album wasn’t an instant success, but gradually it made its mark in the music circles. Topping charts internationally and reaching the sixth spot on the Billboard 200, it was eventually certified four times platinum, being propelled by the immense popularity of the tracks "This Love" and "She will be loved," both peaking at number 5 on the Billboard's Hot 100.

The single "Harder to Breathe" in 2003 became a very popular hit on the radio and the success of this single ranked their album in the Billboard charts as the top 20. This was followed by more successful singles. These singles brought international success and recognition for the band. They toured extensively around the world after this and this was the beginning of a prolific career for Maroon 5.

"It Won't Be Soon Before Long"

Their next album came out in 2007 titled as "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". The album was released after a period of five years. There was obviously a lot of anticipation and excitement regarding the release. The album topped the Billboard charts and sold over 429,484 in its opening week. The inspiration for the name of the album was their experiences while touring and the name of the album was a phrase they used quite often in their tour, it won’t be soon before long!

The album featured songs like "If I Never See Your Face Again", "Makes Me Wonder", "Little of Your Time" "Wake Up Call", "Won't Go Home Without You", "Nothing Lasts Forever", "Can't Stop", "Goodnight Goodnight", "Not Falling Apart", "Kiwi", "Better That We Break" and "Back at Your Door". The album displayed synth and pop rock inspired from the music of Michael Jackson, Prince and Talking Heads. This was yet again a multi platinum album for the band.

Their Music

The follow-up Hands All Over released in 2010 retained their chart dominance by peaking at the second spot on the Billboard 200 as well as spawning the worldwide hit "Move like Jagger" that featured the infectious vocals of Christina Aguilera.

The band has continued to evolve with their sound with each album. This is the reason why all their albums are different and loved by fans. 

On April 29, 2021, the band delighted their fans with the announcement of  their seventh studio album dubbed Jordi. It is set to release in the summer on June 11, 2021.

They are the recipient of numerous international awards, including three Grammys, especially the coveted "Best New Artist" win. Maroon 5 has become an international phenomenon with their songs hummed in the farthest corners of the world. Maroon 5 was all set to hit the road for a 41-date US tour in 2020, when it also became the victim of the COVID-19 crisis and had to postpone the trek. New rescheduled dates have been unveiled for the group’s eleventh headlining tour that was named The 2020 Tour and now will be called the 2021 Tour and the 2022 Tour. The LA-based band will start live performances from August 10. The Live Nation-produced summer tour will continue all through the current year and end in 2022. Trainor and Bridges were the band's support acts on the original tour, but it is not sure if that will be the case for the upcoming rescheduled dates as well. Maroon 5 is back!
