Jackson Brown is a multi-faceted artist, who is a songwriter, musician and rock singer. He is known for his political interests and personal angst that form an integral part of his musical career too. Popular songs such as "Somebody's Baby", "The Pretender", "These Days" and "Running on Empty" all reflect his political views. In the year 2004, his name was included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004 Los Angles' Occidental College honored him with a Doctorate of Music for "a remarkable music career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social change and justice." His soulful introspective lyrics have secured him a place among the leaders of the southern California conventional singer-songwriter movement that gained immense popularity during the 1960's.

Browne was born in Heidelberg Germany, on October 9, 1948. While he was still a toddler he shifted to Highland Park district in Los Angles, California. He graduated from the Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, California, in 1966. His teens were spent singing folk songs around local venues such as Ash Grove. After signing with the Asylum records he released his first album called Jackson Brown in 1772. The album also included the super hit song "Doctor My Eyes" which became an instant hit and entered the Top Ten in the US singles chart. The album had other hit singles as well including, "Rock Me On the Water," "Song for Adam," and "Jamaica Say You Will". These hit singles helped a lot is establishing Browne's reputation as a deep-thinking songwriter and singer.

His next Album made it in the markets in 1973 and was called For Everyma. Although was not as successful as the previous one, yet it managed to sell a million copies. The album revealed Browne's angst. The Song "These Days" represented Browne's angst. His third album was called Late for the Sky and came out in 1974, revealing despair in the face of a decadent society. His next album came out after the suicide of his wife, in 1966, called The Pretender. It included songs like, "Your Bright Baby Blues", "Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate", and "Here Comes Those Tears Again." It was a dark album, and the track "The Pretender" is an account of losing in the face of Reality.

The album called "Running on Empty" gave Browne a true taste of commercial success. It included tracks like, "Running on empty", "The Road", "The load-out stay", and "Rosie". This album was recorded in a more conventional style, combining concert performances and recordings made in buses, hotel rooms, and back stage. The album was released in 1977 and is known to be Browne's biggest commercial success ever. Numerous other albums he released after "Running on Empty" succeeded as well. Albums like, "Hold Out", "Lawyers in Love", "Lives in the Balance", "World in motion", "I'm alive" "Looking east", "The Naked Ride Home" and "Solo Acoustic, Vol.1" also enjoyed commercial and critical acclaim.
