Soon after her birth, the whole family moved to the town of Mullumbimby which was far from being a major city. The house was hand built by her father from mud bricks and he also introduced her to the arts at a very young age. Her mother was a cleaner by profession and many a times Iggy helped her at her job for some extra pocket money.  

Iggy first got interested in rap at the age of eleven after she heard the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur's song "Baby Don't Cry (Keep Ya Head Up)” for the first time. That led her to expand her horizons and she began to listen to different rappers and styles. It wasn’t long before she formed a rapping trio with her friends from the neighborhood.

By the time she turned sixteen, she realized that she didn’t want to do anything else with her life, other than to be a rap star. Gathering up all her savings, Iggy decided to travel to the U.S, the home of hip hop music. She wanted to learn how to be a better rapper as well as look for opportunities to advance her career. She lied to her parents, dropped out of high school and travelled to Miami, Florida. She then moved to Houston before finally moving to Atlanta for a few years. This is when she also adopted her stage name. Iggy was the name of a dog she had when she was a kid while Azalea was the name of her street in Australia.

She learned the southern American accent to hone facilitate her rapping style and cultivated the accent in every city she went to. She made connections in the hip hop industry and by the time she left Atlanta for Los Angeles, Iggy Azalea was ready for the spotlight.

Iggy started making her own songs and uploading them on YouTube to great acclaim. That created the media buzz she required to release her first mix tape titled ‘Ignorant Art’ in 2011 which made her even more famous in the underground hip hop scene. In 2012, she released her first EP titled ‘Glory’ and accompanied it with the release of two songs ‘Murda Bizness’ and ‘Millionaire Misfits.’

It took quite a long time but finally in 2014 Iggy released a music video for her first single from her debut studio album called ‘The New Classic.’ The single “Fancy” featured Charli XCX and became Iggy’s highest topping song on the Billboard chart, reaching the top spot. She became only the fourth female hip hop artist to reach the top of the charts. Her album debuted on the third spot on the charts and was certified gold in several countries.

The album was a huge success and quite a few more songs were released, all to great acclaim. Iggy was nominated and won several awards for her efforts as well including two American Music Awards and three Teen Choice Awards.
