The Fleet Foxes are currently made up of extremely talented musicians, such as Morgan Henderson on arrangements, Christian Wargo on the vocals and bass guitar, Casey Wescott on the vocals, mandolin and keyboards, Joshua Tillman on the arrangements, vocals and drums, Skyler Skjelset on the mandolin and lead guitars and Robin Pecknold on the guitars and lead vocals. Some of their past members include Bryn Lumsden, Trevor Alderfer, Craig Curran and Nick Peterson. The band was initially named Pineapple, but the name was later changed to the Fleet Foxes due to a clash that occurred with another local group, which had the same name. Skyler Skjelset was the lead guitarist of the band, while Robin Pecknold acted as the song writer. Producer Phil Ek discovered the band, and helped them with the recording of their first demo in the year 2006. The EP was named Fleet Foxes, and was released independently. Soon, the press started to notice the group, and they began to gather a large fan following.

As a result of their rising popularity, the Fleet Foxes decided to release another album. They went to work on it in the year 2007, working with producer Ek at their studio. The group attracted a large amount of listeners of the internet, gaining more than a quarter of a million song plays in only sixty days on their band page at the popular website, MySpace. Shortly afterward, on January 18, 2008, the group managed to get an offer for a record deal with the company named Sub Pop, which was a subsidiary of the recording company, Warner Music. With a recording contract in hand, the group set to work on their second EP, which was titled Sun Giant. Before the album was released, the band embarked on a tour, performing at various festivals, such as the Sasquatch Festival in May, 2008, the SXSW festival in March, 2008 and several more as well. This brought them into the international limelight, gaining them numerous fans worldwide.

Their second EP, Sun Giant, finally saw the light of day on April 8, 2008 to an enthusiastic reception. The press and critics both liked the album, and their fans flocked to buy it from the stores. Soon after the success of their album, the Fleet Foxes got to work once again, this time working on their debut full length album. The album was self-titled, and was released on June 3, 2008. This too, went on to become highly successful with the critics as well as the listeners. The band was compared to the likes of Stills and Nash, Crosby, Animal Collective and the Beach Boys  by the Rolling Stone magazine, which gave their debut album 4 out of 5 stars. The album also became extremely successful in Europe, where it managed to sell more than 200,000 copies within the first five months after releasing. It went on to win the first ever Music Award 2008 prize by Uncut. The group went to tour soon after the release of the album, performing at various countries, such as the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and many more as well.

The Fleet Foxes have been awarded with countless awards and honors, and have topped the charts numerous times with their hit songs and albums.
