Courtney Barnett Tickets for Sale

Date & Time

Courtney Barnett is a relatively new name to American music, chiefly because she isn’t American. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Barnett is a punk artist who rose to international fame after being nominated for a “Best New Artist” GRAMMY in 2016. This recognition has brought her in contact with many other artists as well, including Philadelphia’s Kurt Vile. The two met while he was on tour in Australia and began collaborating on a number of songs. Now, they have decided to take these songs on tour in the US with multiple destinations already announced. Check out Courtney Barnett Tickets for further details on these events.

About Courtney Barnett

An Australian by birth, and living in Melbourne her entire life, Courtney Barnett always had the music bug in her. So much so, that at twenty nine she has ended up running her own recording studio by the name of Milk! Records in Australia for other musicians. This changed in 2014, however, when she began recording her own songs. As she has mentioned on numerous occasions, she sort of stumbled onto her debut album, Sometimes I sit and think and Sometimes I just think, in the process of recording these songs.

Despite this potential journey to stardom, Barnett remains oblivious to the glamorous connotations of her success. This is what she had to say about her GRAMMY nomination; “it's a surreal scene, you know, growing up in Australia and being so distant from that sort of thing. But yeah, it means a kind of recognition for all this hard work we've been doing, I guess. I don't know. I think it's just nice.” Her lack of care for materialistic success is endearing to her admirers, and she’s been collecting quite a lot of those since.

Her Work

Fans connect to her quirky, individualistic lyrics and strange music videos. Her video for Avant Gardner for example features a tennis match which ends in a momentary brawl given to a dubious referee. The song itself is about the struggle of stepping into a new day and how things may not always go to plan. The bringing together of the mundane and the specific is her signature move, and one that is working well for her. The album is full of these specific moments and instances.

There are also tracks that present different connotations to their actual meaning. Three Packs a Day is a hilarious analogy of ramen noodles to addictions such as cigarettes.

Barnett presents character-driven situation in her lyrics which make them all the more intriguing. This method also helps lessen the specificity of these lyrics and make them more relatable through the meaning behind the content.

Despite having achieved so much at a relatively young age, Barnett doesn’t want to force her way into anything. There is no big plan of action in her head, and she wants to keep her music as authentic and real as possible. Speaking to Rolling Stone Magazine, she had this to say; “I tend to just start something and then kind of forget about it and move on. Then all my books are really messy and stuff… lately I've been like, 'I've got no songs!' I looked at this list of songs, but they're all so different.”

The twenty-nine year old is reviving a vocal style of a time long before her, channeling bands such as The Velvet Underground, Nina Simone and 80’s Punk. Given to her particularized song-writing ability, however, her work is refreshingly new and, as a whole, unlike acts we have witnessed before.

Collaboration with Kurt Vile

Barnett met with Kurt Vile, hailing from Philadelphia, while he was on tour in Australia. Against all odds, the two indie artists connected creatively and began recording songs together. As Vile has put it, there was no initial plan to record an album and they steered clear of putting deadlines and limitations on their creative process. However, it quickly began shaping into a twelve-track album over a couple of meet ups.

The album is now complete but as yet remains untitled. The duo, however, have joined forces with the critically acclaimed Sea Lice Band for a live tour across the United States. Multiple shows and venues are being announced for this fall and you can view Courtney Barnett Tickets yourself for further details on these.
