Chris Stapleton was born in 1978 and hails from Lexington, Kentucky. Born to a family of coal miners he didn’t have a music education at an early age but self taught himself to play and understand music. Stapleton was enrolled in Vanderbilt University and studied engineering, but he decided to drop out after only a year to pursue a career in music.

Stapleton moved to Nashville to become a country artist in 2001. Starting off his career as a songwriter, Stapleton secured a deal with publishing house Sea Gayle Music shortly after his move to the city.

During his career as a songwriter, Stapleton wrote more than 150 songs for various artists. Chris Stapleton’s debut album was released in May, 2015. Titled Traveller, it has been described as a southern rock and old school country record. The album was met with nearly unanimous critical acclaim and won the prestigious Album of the Year Award at the CMA Awards. The album was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the same category.
