Chevelle is a band founded in the year 1995, in the city of Grayslake in Illinois. The band was the brainchild of three brothers Joe Loeffler (bass guitar), Sam Loeffler (percussion and drums) and Pete Loeffler (vocals & guitars). The band was named after the famous sports car Chevrolet Chevelle which all the three brothers and their father liked. During the first year the band started playing alternative rock and metal music at small clubs and outdoor events. Chevelle released a demo tape by the name of The Blue Album but their first ever record deal was signed three years after releasing this demo, when the band signed its first ever deal with Squint Entertainment Records.

Chevelle’s first ever album was Point #1 which was released in 1999, it was produced by Steve Albini and released by Squint Records. The album failed to chart but received favorable reviews from various critics. Two music videos of singles from this album namely "Mia" and "Point #1" were released and for these songs Chevelle won two GMA Dove Awards for "Mia" in the year 2000 and "Point #1" in 2001. Wonder What’s Next was Chevelle’s second album that was released in 2002, this was released by Epic Records. This album was simply a superb effort by Chevelle it was simply loved by fans and critics cited it as a unique effort different from all mainstream music. The album catapulted the band into the limelight selling over a million copies it earned a Platinum certification. It was the first album by Chevelle that charted at #14 on US Billboard 200.

In the year 2003 owing to the immense popularity garnered from the album Chevelle headlined the Ozzfest, they toured all over Europe with famous alternative rock band Audioslave and recorded a live album.  At the end of 2003 they also toured with the group Disturbed. Third album This Type of Thinking (Could Us In) was released in 2004, this was also a melodious effort by the band, it raced to the #8 position on US Billboard and was certified Gold just six weeks after its release. A few months after the release of the album Joe Loeffler departed due to personal reasons and he was replaced by an old friend Dean Bernardini. Vena Sera the fourth album of Chevelle was released in 2007, it failed to get any certifications like the last two albums but still managed to land at #2 spot US Rock Charts, #12 on US Digital Tracks and #12 on US Billboard 200.

Sci-Fi Crimes was released in 2009, this was the band’s fifth album recorded in a studio in Nashville Tennessee. The album hit various charts got good reviews but failed to earn a certification. It was the first album by the band that charted #21 in Canada, #3 on both US Rock and US Digital, #1 on both US Hard Rock and US Alternative Charts  and last but not the least #6 on US Billboard, this is till date the highest charting position of Chevelle on Billboard.
