A founding member of one of the most versatile rock bands, “Grateful Dead”, Bob Weir is known for his unique style. In his thirty years music career he established himself as an astounding singer, songwriter and a guitarist. Weir is one of those self-motivated and self-made artists, who after being expelled from different schools due to undiagnosed dyslexia found his calling in music. At the age of sixteen he formed his first band with his friends and began playing in clubs. Although Weir had it easy with guitar since the first time he started experimenting with the instrument, he was not so lucky with his songwriting initially. Today he is a well known singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique and innovative rhythm guitar expression has earned him a cult fan following. Bob Weir's Biography Bob Weir was the youngest member in his band, "Grateful Dead" and played rhythm guitar. He developed a style of rhythm guitar playing that was very unique and it got the group recognized as one of the most creative and unconventional bands. Weir and his team are also best known for their improvisational skills. The band’s creativity and spirit allowed them to improvise and create such splendid music that it usually left the listeners spellbound. Their experimentation produced some phenomenal music pieces that were far beyond the boundaries of any artistic form. Another distinction of the band was that each member brought the best out of the other by pushing their talents to the maximum level. Weir and his band not only improvised together, but also against each other. This process is what made them one of the best rock `n roll bands in the world."Grateful Dead" initially started off as a jug-band. It was the same time when "The Beatles" were dominating the airwaves. Bob Weir credits this legendary band in bringing a change in his musical style. He found The Beatles’ music very attractive and was deeply inspired by it, hence changing from a jug-band into a rock `n roll band.
Weir became famous for his raspy, deep voice and the different pitches he sang in. He specialized in odd voicing and it became the highlight of his performances. His songs reflected his versatility as they were a mixture of jazz, rock, country-west, country-rock and blues. Weir’s creativity went beyond the genre of traditional thinking and his music showed influences of modern classical along with new jazz. Bob Weir’s success lies in the fact that he continued exploring and experimenting with his music. His use of different instruments along with the variation he brought with his voice, gave great depth to his songs.
Other than "Grateful Dead", Weir has been associated with several other bands which includes, Kingfish, the Bob Weir Band, Bobby and the Midnites, RatDog and the latest one being Furthur. His unique form is evident in all the songs he produced for these various bands and says a lot for his understanding and experience with this type of art. Once Weir found his comfort in producing great music, he resumed songwriting and this time it found its mark. He was able to write soulful lyrics which again reflected his distinct style. His efforts were rewarded and he found success in various songs that he wrote which included, "Cassidy", "Truckin" and "Sugar Magnolia".
Bob Weir is known to turn his songs and performances into magic. When performing live he creates a perfect harmony between the crowd, band and his music which leaves people screaming for more. The improvisation and the challenge that band members give each other create an exciting ambience, where audiences do not know what to expect next. Weir’s fans usually claim that his band never play the same song the same way twice.
