Billy Joel gained mainstream attention when he released his second studio album, 'Piano Man' on November 9, 1973. The record made a huge impact in the States, going quadruple platinum in the country and landed at the 27th spot on the Billboard 200. He then followed it up by putting out a couple of platinum selling records before his fifth studio effort, 'The Stranger' hit the markets on September 29, 1977.
