Minneapolis, Minnesota based hip hop band Atmosphere has been developing music since 1989. Most prominent members of the band include Anthony Davis, more popularly known as Ant, who is the producer as well as the DJ for the band, and Sean Daley, nicknamed Slug, who is the rapper for the band. Ever since its inception Atmosphere has produced music that is both critically as well as commercially acclaimed. It is this fact that makes it a truly exceptional as well as the most successful independent hip hop bands of the United States.

History of the band dates back to the high school days of the founder member Sean Daley, who founded the band along with Derek Turner, and the two took up their stage names as Slug and Spawn respectively. They also included another friend Brent Sayers, who selected the stage name Stress for himself. Initially, Slug remained on the turntables while Spawn rapped, but later on they also convinced Slug to begin his career as a rapper. After some practice and training, Slug was successful in establishing himself as a professional rapper. With Slug rapping for the band, Atmosphere released their first collection of work in collaboration with Black Hole, Musab, Phull Surkle, Ant and The Abtract Pack. The compilation was named as the Headshots, which came out as a success, and provided the newly formed band some recognition in the local music industry. The group was encouraged with their first success and developed their own record label with the name of Rhymesayers.

The debut album by the group was released in 1997 with the name of Overcast! The album was a huge success, and it was for the popularity and remarkable business this album did that Atmosphere was known to public outside their hometown. The underground bands and organizations started inviting them for concerts, and local college radio stations featured the band. One of the songs from the album that had the privilege to play on air over many stations and enjoyed immense popularity among the youth was Scapegoat.

The band went on producing wonderful music in the upcoming years, and its popularity graph rose higher and higher. Some important LPs and EPs that Atmosphere produced included Overcast! LP, 12-track album Sad Clown Bad Dub II, fans favorite Lucy Ford: The Atmosphere EPs, as well as the sensational Happy Clown Bad Dub 8 / Fun EP. In 2007 they released Sad Clown Bad Summer 9, followed by Sad Clown Bad Fall 10 and Sad Clown Bad Winter 11, finally ending the seasonal hits with Sad Clown Bad Spring 12 in 2008. He treated the fans with Leak At Will in 2009 and To All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade Holy: The Atmosphere EP’s that were released in years 1997, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2007, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively. The band has produced six albums so far, including Overcast!, Seven’s Travels, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, God Loves Ugly, The Family Sign and You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having. The band has been touring extensively through the continents of North America and Europe, gathering thousands of music fans from across the globe.

Atmosphere, especially Slug the rapper, has a typical style of lyrics that he uses in most of his songs. His style very commonly involves women, especially those with tattooed hands. According to him, it is just a metaphor that many of the rappers have been using in their songs, and he simply wants to give a newer style and meaning to the subject that has already been used by many singers.
