The play has been adapted for stage by Simon Stephens from the 2003 novel of the same name by Mark Haddon. Under the direction of Marianne Elliot and music by Adrian Sutton, the play premiered in 2012 at London’s Royal National Theatre. It made its West End debut a year later where it won the critics praise and the audience’s standing ovation.
The math genius and detective
The story revolves around a fifteen year old boy named Christopher Boone who suffers from an autistic spectrum condition. When a dog in his neighborhood is speared with a garden fork, Christopher is accused to be the culprit. To prove his innocence, he sets out on a Sherlock Holmes-inspired detective adventure to capture the real perpetrator with his amazing math skills. This quest filled with obstacles uncovers some harsh realities for Christopher but eventually leads him to fulfill his ambitions.
Hitting Broadway for 2015
After the debut in London and two productions on West End, Curious Incident is now premiering on Broadway. The UK run brought in seven Laurence Olivier Awards including ‘Best New Play’. On Broadway, the show is performing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre where it garnered six nominations for the upcoming 69th Tony Awards.
