The New York Times has lauded On the Town’s 2014 revival as “the best musical of the year!” On the Town enjoyed its world premiere in winter 1944 at the Adelphi Theatre on Broadway. Five years later, it was adapted for the big screen and was directed by Gene Kelly and featured Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller and Kelly himself among others. The musical has been revived on Broadway twice after a West End production in the early 1960s. The music for On the Town was composed by Leonard Bernstein, while Betty Comden and Adolph Green provided the lyrics and the book.
