Heartbeat of Home
The musical features a cast of forty members, as well as digitally projected images. It is described by its lyricist Joseph O'Connor as a marriage of "the sexiness of salsa to the thunder of Irish dance, the lyricism of tango to the yearning of Sean-nos". The show features a lineup of best Latin and Afro Cuban dancers along with great musicians who will create a dream world of high-energy and joyous performances. Producers, John McColgan and Moya Doherty have put together the dynamic and vibrant components of various compositions and dance moves into this single show.
Heartbeat of Home’s world premiere was held at The Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin and ran twenty one performances. The show had its Asian premiere with sell out runs in Shanghai and Beijing. The show features an electrifying sound by the award-winning musician, Brian Byrne. it includes several songs, such as the hit single "Lead Me Home" by Jessica Sanchez. The show was critically acclaimed and has been called, “an extraordinary show - jaw dropping scale - inspiringly imaginative.”
The cast includes the best dancers from all over the world. Sydney-based dancer, Gianna Petracic is expert in ballet, Irish dance, tap, jazz, contemporary and musical theater. She has won many Australian National and State titles as well as many North American Championship medals. Previously, Gianna has performed in Celtic Illusion. She is pleased to be a part of this new show, as it is the first time she is performing internationally. As part of Irish dance troupe, Erin Trevena is another skilled performer. She developed her love for Irish dance at the age of five and has also been trained in musical theatre; contemporary and ballet. Before Erin started dancing professionally, she won four “Australian Irish Dance Championships”. Erin has been touring across the globe for more than four years, as the lead role of ‘Gaelforce’.
Having also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and enjoyed success as ‘Got to Dance’s semi-finalist, Erin is excited to join Heartbeat of Home. Bobby Hodges is another featured Irish dancer. He joined Lord of the Dance and spent six weeks in the show as the principal dancer. He has been performing internationally for more than three years now and will be joining the cast of Heartbeat of Home, promising to give his best to the audiences. Latin dancer, Curtis Angus got his initial training from the Sylvia Young Theatre School and his theater credits include Adidas Fashion Show Caribbean Stories, Viva Forever, Verdi’s Aida, Carmen, The Darcey Bussell Farewell Performance and many others. Besides these incredible dancers, there is a very talented lineup of musicians, which includes Robbie Harris, Derek O’ Conner and Athena Tergis.
The creative team of Heartbeat of Home consists of the set designer Alan Farquharson, Irish cance choreographer John Carey, projection designer David Torpey, lighting designer Peter Canning and sound designer Ciaran Byrne.
