The musical holiday stage show named Radio City Christmas Spectacular is performed annually in the New York City at Radio City Music Hall. Over 140 performers participate in the event, with specially designed costumes and huge sets to enhance the audio visual effect of the performances. The performances span for over 90 minutes and present a mix of humor, dance, singing and other beautiful expressions of art. History of Radio City Christmas Spectacular dates back to 1933 when it was performed for the first time. The first performance gained an encouraging response from public, and completed a successful two week long tenure. The Music Hall was opened for public just one year before this event, i.e. in 1932. The first event was a result of collaborated efforts by designer Vincente Minnelli and Leon Leonidoff, a stage producer. The performances at that time also featured Hollywood films that were famous in those days, a fact that brought more and more visitors to see the show.
 
After running for a couple of decades under a similar format, the format for the event of Radio City Christmas Spectacular underwent some significant reconfigurations. At that time, it was performed as a small 30 minute performance on stage that was then converted into a 90 minutes performance, a feature that is followed till date. With the use of modern technology and state of the art audio visual marvels, the show has now become more beautiful and interesting than ever before.

One of the most important features of the show is the Rockettes, also called as the Radio City Rockettes. The Rockettes were founded by Russell Markert in 1925, and the group has ever since been renowned for its precision dancing. The performers in the group have an unbelievable coordination, and in spite of their number being so large, their performances are so well disciplines and coordinated that it is hard to believe. The Rockettes open the show for Radio City Christmas Spectacular, with their signature performance of Reindeer. It is then followed by the Santa Claus, who arrives waving at the audience. The show then takes a technologically advanced turn, and 3D performances start, where Santa is shown flying over the New York City.
