Founded in 1933, the team was originally named as Pittsburg Pirates and after being changed three times, was finally called Pittsburg Steelers in 1945. The team saw no success in its first decade, but as they started playing more and more games, their success rate kept on increasing. The Steelers luck took a 360 degree turn when Chuck Noll was hired as the head coach and Steelers began their successful journey. Chuck Noll’s 1974 draft is still named as the best draft in the history of this game. This shrewd and capable coach led the team to the playoffs in his first six seasons and finally a total of 10 playoffs out of 15 under his leadership. With a series of wins under Bill Cowher, the team got in the habit of winning continuously. 2007 was the year when Cowher’s era ended and he took retirement from coaching. The team is currently being led by Mike Tomlin. Another dynamic coach that is till date keeping the team on the top spot.
